Every print is made to order. Nothing sits in a warehouse waiting, and nothing is mass-produced.
The paper
Prints are made on lustre photo paper. It has a light surface texture, throws far less glare than a gloss finish, and works well right across this range of photography — from darker woodland and burnt timber to bright snow and coastal light.
It is the finish I use for my own work, and it is what you get whether you order the print unframed or framed.
Framing
Framed prints ship ready to hang, in a slim classic wood profile with acrylic glazing rather than glass. Acrylic is lighter, safer, and won't shatter in transit — which is why large framed pieces are practical to ship at all.
Three finishes:
- Black — recessive and neutral. The safest choice, and the strongest for the winter and Iceland work.
- White — disappears against a pale wall and keeps high-key images feeling open.
- Natural wood — warm and grained. Suits the plains, Florida and Lisbon frames.
Hanging hardware is included. Frames are supplied without a mat, so the image runs to the edge of the moulding.
Canvas
Every photograph is also offered as a stretched canvas. The image is printed on heavyweight canvas and gallery-wrapped over a 19 mm wooden stretcher bar, so it carries around the edges and needs no frame.
It arrives ready to hang straight from the box, with no glazing between you and the picture and nothing to reflect the room back at you. Canvas isn't offered framed — a gallery-wrapped canvas is a finished piece on its own.
Sizes follow the photograph, not a template
Most print shops crop your image to fit whatever sizes they stock. This one doesn't.
Available sizes vary by photograph, because they follow each image's own proportions. A 3:2 photograph is offered at 8×12, 12×18, 16×24, 20×30 and 24×36. Taller compositions, panoramas and squarer frames each get their own set of sizes. The options for any given photograph are listed on its own page.
It means the print you receive is the photograph as it was composed, with nothing trimmed off the edges to make it fit a standard frame.
Buying a set
Several of the series were made as sets — Winter Silence is six frames made in the same heavy snowfall, and Continental Divide is five winter frames from one stretch of Rocky Mountain National Park. They share palette and proportion by design, so they hang together without any effort on your part.
Additional unframed prints in the same order ship at no extra cost, so a three-panel wall costs the same to deliver as a single print.
Care
Keep prints out of direct sunlight. Handle unframed prints by the edges, and if you're framing one yourself, ask for UV-filtering glazing and acid-free materials — it costs a little more and adds decades.
