I'm Andre Cruz — a photographer capturing stories, places, and moments.
Finding the extraordinary in everyday places, and celebrating our planet.
I fell in love with photography in my early twenties. Much of what first drew me in was documentary work — photographs that offered an honest look into other people’s lives and experiences. Kevin Carter’s The Struggling Girl was what ultimately made me pick up a camera. Since then, I’ve found my own way of telling stories through the places, people, and moments around me.
My work focuses on storytelling through landscape, travel, wildlife and documentary photography. I try to capture authentic moments, dramatic light, and the details that usually go unnoticed. In a world wrapped up in video, I hope to inspire movement with a still photograph.
I believe there's something to appreciate in everything, and I enjoy sharing that view with others.
Where this work comes from
Home is Colorado — the Front Range, the high country of Rocky Mountain National Park, and the open farmland east of the divide. Most of what you'll find here was made within a few hours of my door, at hours when almost nobody else is out.
The Moraine Park frames needed low cloud sitting on a snowed-in valley, which is not something you can plan for. You learn the conditions that make it possible, and then you keep showing up until it happens.
Wildlife and people work much the same way. You put yourself somewhere something might happen and then you wait — for a goat kid to step up onto the rock while its mother watches, for someone to come round a corner and into the light. Most days nothing does. What's here are the days something did, and the reason I keep going back is that you can't know in advance which day it will be.
The rest comes from further afield — the black sand and glacier ice of southern Iceland, the yellow trams and worn stone of Lisbon, and the coquina rock and green algae of the Florida coast. Each one gave me something the Rockies don't.
About the prints
Every print is made to order on lustre photo paper, and offered in sizes that follow each photograph's own proportions rather than being cropped to fit a standard frame. Framed pieces arrive ready to hang.
